Summit's Mission Statement
Summit Eating Disorders and Outreach Program is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of eating disorders. Summit consists of a multidisciplinary team
of professionals working together to provide outpatient services to people with eating disorders, professional development, and prevention services to our community.
The program seeks to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where people can heal from the guilt, shame, and destructive thinking that often
accompanies anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and compulsive eating.
Our primary goal:
To help people experience the freedom of recovery, to enhance understanding and awareness of eating disorders and to encourage prevention, treatment and
recovery.
Summit's Treatment Philosophy
We believe that anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder are caused by a variety of psychological, biological,
interpersonal, and social factors. There is no one cause of eating disorders, many factors come together to create
the conditions necessary for eating disorders to exist, such as:
- Low self-esteem or self concept
- Poor interpersonal relationships
- Depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behavior
Summit focuses treatment on the above underlying dynamics that create and maintain the eating disorder. We do
so through group counseling, individual therapy, nutrition counseling and therapeutic meals. Since an eating disorder
is multi-dimensional, the treatment needs to be as well.
