Groups
Family Support Group
This group is for individuals with a friend or loved one with an eating disorder. Members receive education concerning the development, maintenance and health
consequences of eating disorders, how to support someone with an eating disorder, relationship and communication issues, and how to maintain one's own quality of
life while dealing with this very serious disorder.
Nutrition Group
Led by a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Therapist, individuals suffering from Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa learn both the basics of nutrition and the
emotional factors that contribute to the designation of "safe" and "unsafe" foods. Participants also are supported in developing a more workable
and nutritionally appropriate approach to their own eating patterns.
Experiential Group
This group is a topic led process group in which members explore various subjects, such as emotions, spirituality, sexuality (dating and attitudes toward the
opposite sex for the teen group) and relationships. A particular emphasis is placed on how these issues contribute to the development and maintenance of an eating
disorder and the path toward recovery. There are separate groups for teens and for adults.
Process Group
This is a traditional process group in which members explore emotions, relationships, and communication patterns as well as support each other in exploring
personal concerns and challenges. There are separate groups for teens and for adults.
Family Dynamics Group
In this group we will guide clients in exploring the relationships they have with their family members, as well as discussing how their eating disorder is
impacting their families. Some areas we will address are family patterns, styles of communications, roles in the family, and how to improve connectedness with
family members.
Self-Exploration Group
This group is an active group that involves a wide variety of activities to encourage self-expression and self-awareness. Group members will use various
modalities in this group, including body awareness activities, art projects, and verbal and non-verbal communication exercises. In addition to participating in the
group, clients will be given journaling assignments or other assignments to complete outside of group. The purpose of these assignments is to solidify the
understanding and awareness of the topic being discussed, as well as to promote greater self-exploration outside of the treatment setting.
Journaling Group
This is a topic and activity based group in which members use writing as a tool to develop insight and awareness about themselves, their relationships and the
eating disorder.
Healing Your Soul Group
In this group, clients will explore their own definition of soul - the essence of who they are and were meant to be. Topics include exploring personality
traits, life passions and embracing all the qualities that comprise a person's true being. Use of poetry, art, journaling, and other creative exercises are also
incorporated.
